The Biomedical Library’s Community Health and Engineering Librarian, Aman Kaur, walked with Perelman School of Medicine Students who are participating in the nationwide movement, Walk with a Doc.
These students host biweekly Saturday morning walks in West Philly’s Kingsessing neighborhood. They named this initiative “Walk with a Future Doc“. Medical students, clinicians, community leaders, and West Philadelphians of all ages slowly trickle in to participate in Walk with a Future Doc to get some exercise and share information about various health topics.
On July 28th, Aman and the group walked around the neighborhood passing by the Free Library of Philadelphia Kingsessing Branch which has a “Health corner,” formed with the support of the Biomedical Library, the School of Nursing, and the Free Library of Philadelphia.
At the end of the walk, the medical students handed out “Walk with a Future Doc” t-shirts to participants who attended at least three walks. Aman plans to attend the remaining “Walk with a Future Doc” events to earn her free t-shirt and hand out relevant consumer health information that is also available at the Biomedical Library.
