3D Print of the Week

3D print of the week: heart teaching model prototype

Hello from the 3D printing team of the Biomedical Library! We run the 3D printing service for the library which has become one of our most popular services. In addition to free prints for academic, research and clinical use for Penn faculty, staff and students, we also offer design consultations to help with your projects. Starting this week, we will be showcasing some of our projects in our new Biomeditations feature: 3D Print of the Week.

This week’s highlight is a heart model printed from CT and MRI scans as a prototype teaching tool for attending physicians to use for demonstrating various procedures to their students and fellows in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology.

Printed in hard ABS plastic on our Stratasys SE uPlus printer, this prototype demonstrated the need for the Biomedical Library to acquire additional 3D printers that could print objects in clear and flexible materials.  Now, we can do that, with our Formlabs Form 2 printer.
