On November 8, 2019, Maylene Qiu, Melanie Cedrone, and Kathleen Fox presented our Systematic Review workshop series for the Association of Population Librarians and Information Centers’ (APLIC) Annual Conference. APLIC has been active since 1968 and is comprised of librarians and other professionals who provide information services support for population and reproductive health researchers.

The 54th Annual Conference was hosted by the Demography Library of Penn’s Population Studies Center.
The first session, led by Maylene, defined what systematic reviews are and their place in improving healthcare outcomes. The second session, led by Kathleen and Melanie, introduced principles of systematic literature searching and demonstrated term harvesting and designing a sensitive search syntax.
Attendees put forth questions related to hand-searching and reporting of unpublished clinical trial data.
