For those interested in global health, Penn Libraries recently added a new database. GIDEON, the Global Infectious Diseases and Epidemiology Online Network, is a dynamic tool that provides up to date information on infectious diseases and pharmaceuticals, to include vaccines. There are diagnostic tools for microbe identification in the laboratory as well as for clinical differential diagnoses in patients. Users can even explore disease profiles in different countries and compare data sets amongst the countries.
GIDEON can be accessed from the Holman Biotech Commons website under “Other key databases”. Users will be prompted to sign in with their PennKey credentials.
Want to see a demonstration of some of the key features? Check out a short video available here.
Don’t forget to check out GIDEON’s guidance on copyright notices and how to cite GIDEON as a source while on the site.
